05 Bristol Under 17 Driving
Questions, answered.
Everything parents and students ask before booking, including ages, pricing, instructors, licences and how to apply.
Who is the course for?
Young people approaching their 17th birthday, usually 16-year-olds, who want to start driving before their first on-road lesson. Not strictly limited to one age; contact us for advice.
Do I need a provisional licence?
No. Practical sessions run on a private road network, so no provisional licence is needed and students can drive before turning 17.
How much does it cost?
£199 for over 13.5 hours of tuition: 7.5 hours theory and 6 hours of in-car driving. A £99 deposit secures a place; the £100 balance is due at the first theory session.
How is the six weeks structured?
Evening theory at Yate Library plus practical sessions on the private road network at Hanson UK, Chipping Sodbury, on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Exact session times are confirmed by the coordinator.
Who teaches the practical sessions?
Fully qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructors, in dual-controlled cars insured for off-road tuition. Students share at a maximum of 3:1, rotating between driving and observing.
How do I book?
Complete the online application and the team emails bank details for a £99 deposit or full £199 by bank transfer. Tip: pick a course that ends closest to your 17th birthday.
What's the refund policy?
The deposit is non-refundable within four full weeks of the start date (transfer to another course may be possible). Applications aren't transferable between people, the balance is due at the first session, and no refund is given once the course has started.
Who runs it?
The North Avon Driving Instructors' Association (NADIA), since 1996, with over 150 courses. Supported by South Gloucestershire Council's Road Safety Education Team and Hanson UK.
Ready to book?
Courses are £199 all-inclusive and places are limited.
